7 Things to Make the Most of July in Ocean City

July might just be the perfect month in New Jersey. The dog days of summer heat have yet to hit us like they will in August. School is out for everyone, but back to school commercials have yet to start. The south got this memo, giving us endless things to do in Ocean City during this month. Here’s how to make the most of July with the best that OC has to offer:

1.) Fireworks on the Fourth

You can’t think about July in OCNJ without thinking of everyone’s favorite red, white, and blue filled day. The fireworks are just the grand finale, which people of all ages can enjoy. The boardwalk and streets will be lined with games and shopping, making it a great day to kick off a great month. Make sure to grab a good spot on the beach to watch the show.

2. Farmer’s Market

Some people think that finding something to do in Ocean City means always doing different things, which is definitely possible, but sometimes consistency is key. Each Wednesday starting June 28th until September 6th, you’ll find the Tabernacle Grounds filled with tents and food trucks as part of the farmer’s market from 8am to 1pm. Come stock up your fridge with fresh and organic ingredients, or just grab a snack to enjoy while you walk around.

3.) Wacky Wednesdays

This is one of just a few weekly events that are made for families looking for something to do between hitting the beach and the rides. Every Wednesday starting at 10:30 am, make your way to the Music Peer for the activity of the week. They call it wacky for a reason, considering the events range from no-hand pie eating to french fry sculpting. Seems like the only criteria for joining this weekly fun is a big appetite and a pinch of creativity.

4.) Family Nights

Another weekly event, but lighting up your Thursdays this time, gives families a reason to cruise the boards at sunsets. Playland Castaway Cove, Shrivers, Johnson’s Popcorn, and Gillian’s Wonderland Pier come together to entertain that awkward time between dinner and bedtime. The boardwalk is more lively than it is during the day, making it a perfect time to make memories.

5.) Sand Sculpting Contest: July 6th

One of the must-see events of not just July but the entire summer, people of all ages show off their beach skills with the sand as their medium. Beginning at 9 am with judging at 11am, the excitement is bound to outweigh the stress of the colossal projects. Go down to 6th street beach to check it out before the tide wipes away the winner.

6.) Surf Contest: July 8th

The fourth contest of the South Jersey District of the Eastern Surfing Association is being held at 7am on July 8th. Participating or watching, this is a great opportunity to get out and appreciate the sport. As an original surf town, Ocean City provides perfect surfing conditions that will be showcased at this event.

7. Night In Venice: July 22nd

Coming towards the end of the month, the 63rd annual Night In Venice is a good way to go out. Alfonso Ribiero, otherwise known as Cousin Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, will grand marshal the memorable night that starts with a boat parade and bay front house decoration contest.  Of all of the things to do in Ocean City in July, this one is both fun for the family and a celebrated tradition for the entire island.

Enjoy these events with your friends and family this July, along with the everyday things to do in Ocean City that make it so special, like eating and hitting the beach.
