Ocean City : More than just a beautiful beach
Everyone knows how beautiful beach life in Ocean City is, but many are still unsure of what this beautiful island oasis truly offers. Whether you’re a shoobie or local, here are ten alternative activities that you will love.
*Disclaimer: Below is a limited list with options of places to go for the activities – there are plenty of amazing businesses that offer these as well that are not listed*
Who doesn’t love a good yoga session? Since this was my most requested topic, I decided that it was critical to put it at the top of the list! There are many great yoga studios throughout Ocean City, but the one that we are highlighting this week is Golden Buddha! They offer a wide variety of classes from hatha to even beach yoga. They’re located at 841 Central Ave.
I know that all of us have seen the parasails in the ocean while relaxing and enjoying the sand and the sun, but did you ever wonder how you too could soon be flying high? I have been parasailing through Ocean City Parasail, but there are other great parasailing companies as well. Ocean City Parasail is located at 232 Bay Avenue and I personally recommend them!
Paddle Boarding :
Paddle boarding is one of my favorite activities and there is no better place than Ocean City Paddle Company! They offer one hour long guided stand up paddle board lessons and tours with an instructor from their location at the 10th Street Wharf. Not looking for a lesson or tour? They also do rentals too! Whether you’re an advanced paddle boarder or a beginner, there’s no place better than Ocean City Paddle Company!
Surfing Lessons :
What better way to enjoy island life than to learn how to surf? Step on down to 7th Street Surf Shop to take surf lessons from some of the best instructors in the United States! Located at 7th and Boardwalk, you can either schedule your lessons / surf camp there or you can call them at 609-391-1700.
Corson’s Inlet :
Looking for some adventure and beauty this summer? Corson’s Inlet is located at the south end of the island right before the bridge to Strathmere! After storms, you can find the most beautiful shells here. Spend a morning seeing where the bay meets the ocean at this wonderful state park.
Located between 6th and 7th on Asbury Avenue, you can find many local businesses selling their goods at the Farmer’s Market! From 8am to 1pm every Wednesday morning through September 10th, make sure to find yourself at the farmers market!
Take a kayak nature tour through Baycats! You can enjoy a tour of the salt marches of the Great Egg Harbor Bay with a naturist for two fun and exciting hours. No experience is necessary and it’s great for all ages! They also offer other activities such as paddle boarding and hobie cat sailing! Want more information? Head on over to 316 Bay Avenue to learn more!
You don’t have to be an artist to make beautiful artwork! Glazed Over and Peace of Wood are two places where you can let your artistic gene flow! At Glazed Over, you can paint beautiful pottery or make mystical mosaics. Peace Of Wood offers daily paint jams where you can have so much fun painting a slab of wood that you can display in your home! They also have ladies guided paint nights as well! Glazed Over is located at 704 Asbury Avenue and Peace of Wood is located at 1112 Asbury Avenue.
Badfish Charters offers fishing charters and nature sightseeing tours. It is fun for all ages and skill levels! All of the bait and tackle are provided for you through them. They are located at 680 Bay Avenue. For more information you can contact Captain Brian Williams at 856-371-4346 or via email at Bwilliams@ocnjfishing.com.
All throughout the island there are amazing businesses where you can shop ’til you drop, but there’s no better place than downtown Ocean City. From 5th to 14th street on Asbury Avenue, you can find great shops, amazing restaurants, and fun activities that everyone can enjoy. Go to the gym, enjoy a coffee, or even go on a shopping spree at downtown Ocean City.
