Ocean City is known for its pizza. But unlike other beach town along the Jersey Shore, O.C. boasts a wide variety of pizza, from boardwalk classics, family-owned favorites, and neighborhood staples to unique wood fried brick oven pies as well as national brands. Here are just five OCNJ highlights. Did your favorite make the list?
1.) Manco & Manco
This is the stuff of legends. The Manco’s have made a name for themselves as Ocean City’s pizza kingpins. With three boardwalk locations, (9th Street open year-round) locals and tourists alike like up in droves for what’s considered the best pizza at the Jersey Shore. Tossing dough into the air and serving up fresh, cold Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer, Manco’s is an experience any person visiting Ocean City for the first time needs to have. Thin and crispy, this pizza will make you crave and dream about it. What began in the summer of 1956 as a humble pizza parlor, grew into the family-owned franchise that has loyally served the Ocean City community for decades. Marco’s will also deliver anywhere on the island, so be sure to take advantage of that the next time you’re hosting a party or staying in for the night.
If you’re looking for a delicious departure from boardwalk-style pizza, Piccini has you covered. This corner restaurant at 13th + West features wood fried brick oven specialties and a wide-variety of sizes, combinations and toppings. From gourmet Margherita’s to clams casino and old bay crab, there’s always a ton to of options to choose from. They also have quaint outdoor seating on their side-patio with lights streamed throughout the trees. This is a great spot to take a date or your family.
Just a few steps away from the Ocean City Fishing Pier at 14th Street and the Boardwalk, Angelo’s Family Restaurant offers a classic New York approach to mouth-watering shore pizza. Perhaps slightly thicker than Manco’s, this underdog spot is definitely an Ocean City gem. Inside, there’s plenty of seating and a full-menu of other wonderful Italian specialities. Many families have been coming to Angelo’s for years, and it’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re at the south-end of the boardwalk.
4.) Express Pizza
A North-end favorite, Express Pizza has loyally served the Gardens section of Ocean City for years. It’s the neighborhood go-to pizza spot for most residents and vacationers who live on this end of the island. With thick crust and a sweeter sauce, many consider this pizza their Ocean City favorite, and possibly the best-priced pie in town. They’re open year-round!
Just like the island’s North-end, Randazzo’s serves Ocean City’s Southern-end. At 34th + Asbury, this year-round, family operated restaurant has something for every pizza-lover. Inside, there’s an abundance of seating and a full-menu of other Italian specialties, lunch items, dinner entrees and appetizers. There’s also a pick-up window and outdoor seating. If you’re beaching anywhere near 34th Street, Randazzo’s is your go-to for a delectable pizza pie.
Honorable mentions: On the boardwalk: Three Brothers from Italy, Jo Jo’s, Preps. In town: Nonna’s and Bennie’s Bread (yes, believe it or not, the corner bakery at 11th + Asbury cooks up some delicious pizza)
